17th Edition Wiring Regulations

Overview and content

This qualification is designed to provide those working in the Electro-Technical industry or those looking for career progression to develop the skills necessary to carry out job roles and responsibilities associated with the industry.

Practicing electricians must comply with the BS7671 regulations for electrical work. This 17th Edition qualification ensures learners are up-to-date with the latest industry regulations on wiring and the safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems.

It covers the 17th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, which came into force in June 2008. These regulations are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS7671).

The course is entirely classroom based. Delegates will be assessed throughout the course via practical exercises plus an online examination on the final day.

The online assessment consists of a two-hour multiple choice exam which is open book and allows you to reference the 17th edition wiring regulations 2008, incorporating amendment 3 (2015).

The course will also include homework and revision.

Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an accredited City & Guilds 2382-15 Level 3 certificate.

The course is designed to give learners an understanding of the following aspects of the regulations:

  • Scope, object and fundamental principles
  • Definitions
  • Assessment of general characteristics
  • Protection for safety
  • Selection and erection of equipment
  • Inspection and testing
  • Special installations or locations
  • 16 Appendices.
Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, but you will need to arrive equipped with the following:

  • Scientific calculator
  • Copy of BS7671 17th edition wiring regulations incorporating amendment 3 (Yellow book) ISBN 9781849197694.
Dates, fees and booking

Training is delivered over three days from 9am until 4.30pm each day, followed by a half-day exam.
